WHOA, this is AWE-some!

The world of guided women’s adventures just opened up a little wider. 

Do you know that feeling when you strike up a conversation with someone and immediately feel as if you’ve known them forever? Ever joked with a friend that you surely must be non-identical twins separated at birth? That’s the feeling that we here at AWE got the very first time we had a conversation with Allison and Danielle, the founders of WHOA Travel. 

WHOA, if you haven’t heard of them before, stands for Women High On Adventure. Founded by Allison and Danielle in 2013, WHOA Travel is one of the most-loved brands in women’s adventure travel.  They’re doing for guided women’s adventures in the hiking and trekking space what we here at AWE are aiming for in mountaineering: to create supportive, inclusive and exciting spaces for women (you!) so that we all can push our comfort zones and experience transformative adventure amidst a community of likeminded teammates. 

In the winter of 2024-25 we hosted our first AWE x WHOA collaboration, and we jumped in with both feet: the inaugural AWE x WHOA trip was a three-week expedition to 22,838 ft (6,961 m) Aconcagua in Argentina. As we were working together on bringing this Aconcagua collaboration to life, we quickly realized that AWE and WHOA share the same DNA (heck, just look at the acronyms we each chose when building our companies!).

We care about the same things, we speak the same language, and we had heard from our respective alumnae more than once that they had sought out and valued both WHOA and AWE for all-women trips at different times and for different activities.

That’s why we’re beyond excited to make it official, and proudly announce that WHOA and AWE are now sister companies. 

What does that mean for you?  Even more amazing guided women’s adventures to choose from!  From the windswept peaks of Patagonia to the rugged trails of Nepal, from Mongolia’s remote wilderness to the iconic glaciers of Mount Baker, the world of all-women adventures just opened up wider.

No matter if you’re just beginning your journey into outdoor recreation or you are a seasoned outdoor adventurer looking to push your personal limits, the sisterhood between WHOA Travel and AWExpeditions opens doors for all of us to explore what we are capable of: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This partnership means more than just increased destinations. It represents a powerful alliance between two organizations that are deeply committed to redefining what guided women’s adventures can look like and who belongs in these spaces. Both WHOA and AWE offer intentional, professionally guided expeditions that prioritize safety, inclusivity, and meaningful connection.
