For Salkantay and Machu Picchu we point people to WHOA Travel, who run women’s trips out of Cusco.
The route crosses the Salkantay pass at about 4,600 meters (15,100 ft) before dropping toward Machu Picchu, with days in Cusco first to acclimatize. It’s a trek, not a climb, and a good first trip at altitude.
WHOA handles dates and booking. If you’re choosing between this and the Grand Canyon as a first big trip, ask us.
